What’s a typical day like?
Imagine a customer urgently needing quality specialty tooling and equipment to complete a job. Normally, these parts require a 2-week lead time. However, the customer asks if we can deliver the order within 1 week, which would save them a significant amount of money. The Scheduling Manager realizes we have the flat stock for the IRU cutter in-house. However, the parts must be blanked out by the EDM department today to meet the new deadline. The Scheduling Manager approaches the Manufacturing Manager to expedite the order. The Manufacturing Manager then comes to you and the EDM operator with the request. There are three parts that need to be started immediately, but it’s 9 am, and there are already four other work orders for the day. Can you deliver?
Within a few hours, the EDM department provides the IRU cutter blanks. Your co-worker takes on the other work orders, allowing you to focus on the expedited order. You read the print, gather your tooling, and begin working on the cutters. Within three days, you and your co-worker successfully mill, braze, grind, and inspect the three IRU cutters, completing the other orders as well. The expedited order ships out, arriving two days ahead of schedule. The customer is thrilled with the quality of the tooling and the service they receive. They start referring their co-workers from other locations to buy from us, leading to new opportunities.
